With Courage and Common Sense

As with all election years, 2016 is going to be an interesting year as the election cycle moves forward.  Strong ideals and beliefs are held by all, and there is so much at stake – not the least of which is keeping the American Dream alive.  I think that William F. Knowland said it well:

“If we as Americans show the same courage and common sense that motivated the men who sat at Philadelphia and gave us the Declaration of Independence and later the Constitution of the United Sates, there is no domestic problem we cannot solve and there is no foreign foe we need ever fear.”

William F. Knowland William Fife Knowland (June 26, 1908 – February 23, 1974) was a United States politician, newspaperman, and Republican Party leader. He was a U.S. Senator representing California from 1945 to 1959. He served as Senate Majority Leader from 1953-1955, and as Minority Leader from 1955-1959. He was defeated in his 1958 run for California Governor. He succeeded his father, Joseph R. Knowland, as the editor and publisher of the Oakland Tribune.

Lisa William F. Knowland's quote rings with a lot of truth.  Wouldn't it be great if it some how became a reality.

Loved this post and wow most people have no idea who William F Knowland was and that is part of the problem with our political system and election, we lack knowledge, history and we do not learn.....Endre

Good morning Lisa. I know the name, read about him previously. I wonder what he would think about our current state of affairs?

Good morning Lisa. This year is going to make for very interesting election. It may boil down to Trump and Hillary. The thing is, will Trump trump Hillary?

Election years are interesting ones....we are not ones to wear political beliefs on our blog...but believe each of us has a right to an opinion.

Hi Lisa.  There is no way the founding fathers could write those documents today.  Too many distractions.

"Courage and common sense" ?  It seems to be lacking in this election cycle.

Lisa - William F. Knowlands's works are right on target.  Living by principles rather than quick gains is what forged this country.  I hope we get it this year!

Like our friends from Wisconsin, Sally K. & David L. Hanson I prefer not to share my political beliefs in my posts but I respect everyone's opinion and the most important thing is that we don't turn our backs on the system - that we participate and vote!
