Our hearts are with the local communities and residents who’ve suffered so much in the wake of the Dec. 26 tornado. To help those in need, both people and four-legged friends, we’re collecting canned goods and pet supplies Saturday, Jan. 16, and Sunday, Jan. 17. Each guest who brings two cans of food, or like-new pet supplies (dog/cat food, leashes, collars, blankets, beds, treats, toys), will receive free admission to the Zoo for that day. Help us help our neighbors, as part of our Zoo Unto Others program.

Donations will be delivered to the North Texas Food Bank, the City of Rowlett Animal Shelter, Garland Animal Services and Animal Hospital of Garland.

And here is a little history about our fabulous Dallas zoo.  Click on the information photo or dpmatopm photo to go directly to the Dallas Zoo's website:

About Us

The Dallas Zoo, founded in 1888, began with just two deer and two mountain lions in City Park.  It later moved to Fair Park in 1909 and quickly outgrew its second home, moving to Marsalis Park in 1912 where it stands today.  Throughout the past 100 years, numerous upgrades have been made and collections expanded.  In 1955, the Dallas Zoological Society was established as a non-profit to support the Zoo.  In 2009 a public-private partnership was formed to transition to private management of the Zoo.  In addition, the Dallas Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals, and today, the Zoo is thriving with new exhibits such as the Koala Walkabout presented by Kimberly-Clark Corporation, SOAR, A Festival of Flight, and the Giants of the Savanna to name a few.

Hi Lisa.  Your Dallas weather has become unpredictable and dangerous.  Great job by the Zoo.

Lisa hopefully area residents will take advantage of this.  I would love to take my granddaughter to this zoo if we lived closer.

I agree with Debbie that this is a great thing and needs out in a little bit more than it does. Much love!
