About Us

The Dallas Zoo, founded in 1888, began with just two deer and two mountain lions in City Park.  It later moved to Fair Park in 1909 and quickly outgrew its second home, moving to Marsalis Park in 1912 where it stands today.  Throughout the past 100 years, numerous upgrades have been made and collections expanded.  In 1955, the Dallas Zoological Society was established as a non-profit to support the Zoo.  In 2009 a public-private partnership was formed to transition to private management of the Zoo.  In addition, the Dallas Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals, and today, the Zoo is thriving with new exhibits such as the Koala Walkabout presented by Kimberly-Clark Corporation, SOAR, A Festival of Flight, and the Giants of the Savanna to name a few.  In 2017, the Simmons Hippo Outpost will open, returning these remarkable “river horses” to the Zoo for the first time in 15 years.

We have them here in Florida at our local Sea World. They are amazing animals.

Lisa last year we took my granddaughter to the Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN.  They have a large Penguin exhibit there.  My granddaughter loved it.

Good morning Lisa.  It has been 20-30 years since I've been to the zoo in Dallas.  I bet it has changed a lot since then

Penguins are really cool and I don't think I have seen them since I was a really small kid.

I love going to zoos to see pandas so it would also be fun to see penguins.
