Opening of school for prekindergarten students

As you know, our district has the responsibility of serving eligible children based on the prekindergarten guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency. In order to be eligible for enrollment in a prekindergarten class, a child must be 4 years of age on September 1 of the current school year and:

  1. unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
  2. educationally disadvantaged; or
  3. homeless; or
  4. a dependent of:
  • an active duty uniformed member of the military
  • a military parent who is missing in action or deceased; or
  • a foster child.

We must make every effort to serve eligible prekindergarten children in a fair and equitable manner. If you need more information, please contact the Early Childhood Education Department at (972) 925-6770.

Hi Lisa... amazing to think that summer vacations are pretty much over and done with for 2018. Our SC kids also start on Monday and the NC kids the Monday after that.

Hi Lisa,
It always seems a crime to make the kids start before Labor Day.  That's when we started as kids... signaling the true end of summer vacation.

The summer break days keep getting reduced Sheila Anderson some day we might actually have year-round school!

Carol Williams I can understand that, but even when I was a kid I wished school was all year round.  I would have rather had 4 breaks during the year to enjoy each season rather than those three long months each summer

Good morning Lisa - that is early for New York but late for Florida.  Every state is different.

I'm not sure of the reasoning but Minot schools always seem to start on a Thursday Lisa Von Domek . Maybe it's letting the staff dip their toe in the water before jumping in .

Lisa our local schools will start back up again about a week and a half after you.  Soon I will be following big yellow buses again

Lisa, Dallas goes back later than we did around Denver.  Most of the schools are back in session now here.
