If You Want To Delete Your Facebook Account, Here's How To Do It

One of my niche markets is Senior Real Estate. With the growing rumbles of discontent with social media and privacy concerns, I have had an increase in client conversations where they have questioned continuing to use Facebook. Many have told me that they have had accounts for years but haven't logged in for awhile and won't use it again. So,, how to delete their information online? In reviewing Facebook on this topic, here is the helpful information that they provide on how to delete an account; as well as, how to undelete your deletion. They also offer information on temporarily deactivating an account:

How do I permanently delete my account?
Before deleting your account, you may want to log in and download a copy of your information (like your photos and posts) from Facebook. After your account has been deleted, you won't be able to retrieve anything you've added.
To permanently delete your account:
  1. Click at the top right of any Facebook page.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Your Facebook Information in the left column.
  4. Click Delete Your Account and Information, then click Delete My Account.

Can I cancel my account deletion?
If it's been less than 14 days since you initiated the deletion, you can cancel your account deletion. After 14 days, your account and all your information will be permanently deleted, and you won't be able to retrieve your information.
It may take up to 90 days from the beginning of the deletion process to delete all the things you've posted. While we're deleting this information, it's not accessible to other people using Facebook.
To cancel your account deletion:
  1. Log into your Facebook account within 14 days of deleting your account.
  2. Click Cancel Deletion.

This is great information...and according to Pew research (a reliable search company) more people are leaving the site...Privacy is still an issue as they tap your phone and tap the calls you have made. Here is the link and the headline

Facebook confirmed that it uses phone numbers that users provided it for security purposes to also target them with online ads. When a user gave Facebook a phone number for two-factor authentication or in order to receive alerts about new log-ins to a user's account, that phone number became targetable by an advertiser within a couple of weeks.

Great information!

I don't use facebook that often anymore. My family has switched to Snapchat to stay connected.

I keep my facebook page though because I have so much stuff on it I want to remember. It serves as a diary of sorts. I love receiving the "memories" it sends each day.

Well, I signed up for an account and never did anything more.

I need to cancel the account

Lisa I have been tempted to delete my account more than once.

My beef with Facebook is their pro-globalist, ultra-left political stance, which now includes censoring anyone they disagree with.

I recently purged my Facebook page.   I manually deleted every comment, unfriended everyone, left groups, shuttered my business pages.  Removed my images/photos/profile pic.  Changed my contact info to a throw-away email address.

All that is left is a bare-bones presence with 2 reunion groups, one business group, and a handful of relatives.   Soon enough, I will leave them, too.

Hi Lisa... so long as I'm working I don't see it beneficial to delete my Facebook account... an awful lot of my clients are very active on it and it's a great way to keep up with them.

Morning Lisa.

My wife lives on FB.  I know there is no way she will ever delete her account.  On the other hand I don't know why I still have one, other than to link my AR blogs to it each day

William Feela I know that a lot of people use their accounts regularly, both personally and professionally...I've just never gotten on board with it!

You are not alone George Souto with some of the questionable practices that Facebook uses...many are dropping their accounts.

And thank goodness their views and practices are finally coming to light Fred Griffin .  They are a monopoly and should be treated as such.

Interesting info, Lisa.  My question is if that one has the ability to undelete the delete then FaceBook has not really deleted your information but only hid it.  It is still on their servers.

Posted by Gabe Sanders, Stuart Florida Real Estate (Real Estate of Florida specializing in Martin County Residential Homes, Condos and Land Sales) about 1 year ago

So true Gabe Sanders I, for one, am not assuming that after the "undelete" period that the information is actually gone...

Thanks for sharing this information.

Many do not understand how to positively use Facebook.

Facebook provides an easy way for seniors to maintain contact with family members and friends even when the seniors may not be able to get out and about. A new baby is expected in our family today and I expect to see the news on Facebook.
