Oh, That's Not A Generator...THAT'S A Generator!

Fall storm season is beginning here in the Dallas area and a super storm blew through the area last night...with more stormy weather in the forecast.  Now is the time to be sure you are ready for storm damage and power outages.  If you have never owned a generator for emergency situations, I highly recommend adding one to your list of "must-haves"!

Now you don't need one as big as the one pictured above, it is a commercial size 100kw style that runs on natural gas and kicks on automatically when the power goes out.  Portable generators like this one -
can keep the basic necessities in your home running until power is restored.

"That's not a generator, that's a generator!"

Yes, I borrowed one of my favorite lines from Hollywood from Crocodile Dundee (That's Not a knife...video below)

I have one and I warm it up everytime I hear a storm coming to make sure it will start if needed

Thanks for the fun clip Lisa Von Domek , I remember the movie well. I have two portable generators at home but I've seriously considered a big one like the one pictured. They are really handy when the power goes out in a blizzard.

Hi Lisa- thankfully our friends's house had a larger generator like the first one when Irma hit last year and we stayed there.

Hi, Lisa...every time the lights flicker during a storm we think about how nice a generator would be. It's not at the top of our "purchase" list, but it is certainly worth considering if the price fits your budget.

Hello Lisa --- I don't have a generator, purchasing one seems so grown-up.  LOL

Dear Lisa,

Consumer Reports recently reviewed generators. They seem to favor the inverter type. More expensive, but can run at variable speed.

We have a portable one that looks a lot like the one in the photo. So far we have not had to use it for a power outage.

HI Lisa Von Domek -  I agree with your assessment. It is good to be prepared.

We have a home in our neighborhood that has on one of the commercial units. When the power goes out, I walk outside to see if it is running. This lets me know it is the whole neighborhood that has no power!

Funny, we were just talking about how 'prepared' we are now that we are complete with a generator, Endre Barath, Jr.! And, Lisa, now, that's the kind of generator we are used to seeing outside of our lux homes here - you know, the ones we have to inspect for our buyers! LOL

Morning Lisa.

Love that scene from the Crocodile man movie.  At one time I did own a generator.  Our next home will have a full house one for sure.

We had a power outage here the first year after we built...for five very long days....and there were thoughts of getting a generator....and thankfully we have not lost power for more than an hour since !

Good morning Lisa Von Domek,

I'd say you are equipped to outlast any storm with any power outages that comes your way!!

Lisa Von Domek - I love the clip on Crocodile Dundee too!

Now that's a GENERATOR! You should be set for whatever comes!

That was a odd storm that seemed to come out of nowhere yesterday. I was home at the time and safe. No worries. But when I went to check on my listing, a large branch had fallen down. I went back home to get my loppers and hand saw (which I knew wouldn't cut it) and when I got back, the neighbor was already at it, cutting away. We both finished it off and it was nice to receive seller's neighborly help at a time when I needed it. Today, I go back to sweep and rack, unless of course we get more rain.

I am glad that I live in an area where I don't really need one of those, but if I lived in an area where power would go out, I certainly would want the biggest and best generator available, haha.

Good morning Lisa - I got a Generac standby generator after Sandy in 2012.  It is nice and goes on 20 seconds after the power goes out.  Ours runs on propane since we don't have natural gas.

We were once out of power for a week Sally K. & David L. Hanson and that prompted us to add a whole house generator to never have that happen again!

We hadd a generac for Hurricane Irma, great unit so far. We put ~160 hours on it and I still crank it up once a month or so to make sure its still working at peak performance.
